Most asked questions

How do you manage to travel the world?

People always ask me how I manage to travel the world and how I can afford to go to so many countries every year. I can tell you that the most expensive part of every trip is the flight. Discovering a country, finding a place to sleep and getting around can be so cheap if you are a modest person. There are many possibilities to work for accomodation and food, get to you next destination, hitchhiking, sharing a meal with other travelers or just set up you hammock at the beach (even in countries, where it is illegal to camp in the wilderness, you are allowed to sleep in a hammock.) Furthermore it is a question of priorities if you can travels with little money or not. For more information check my article about low budget travelling.

What restaurants do you recommend?

If you love to try local dishes and want to experience new tastes, you should neither trust recommendations on tripadvisor nor eat in touristic quarters or on the beachfront. Instead you should just ask random people on the street where they would go with their friends. Also in some countries people will even invite you to their place or cock for you themselves. If you are more the visual type of person you can get inspired using the option to show near restaurants on google maps. Like this you can read recommandations and see comments from everyone. (This option works only in cities and not far of the track).

Which apps do you use?

There are many useful apps that can help you while traviling. Such as couchsurfing, airbnb, rome2rio, google maps etc.. But for me a real gam changer is the app MAPS.ME. In many moments when you google maps is convinced that you are in the middle of the ocean, MAPS.ME still knows you current location and shows you way for off the beaten tracks. As users can edit this app themselves it may even show you the location of wholes in fences to enter restricted areas.

What low budget destinations do you recommend?

In my opinion if you are short on money you should always go south and travel to a warm country, where you can sleep outside in an emergency. Moreover you should avoid very touristic and fancy places and consider visiting countries not everybody would visit. How about discovering the beautiful mountains and culture of Albania, book a sponanous flight to unique landscapes in Morocco, spend a party weekend in Ukraine or if you have more time travel to Central America or Southeast Asia. If you can´t decide between to countries let me know and I will help you with your choice.
